Judy Pence

Judy Pence is the mother half of the mother-and-daughter team behind the Sunset Cove Adventures, and a storyteller with a heart for inspiring young readers. She previously authored and promoted “A Helmet Away from Heaven,” working alongside a number of state and national organizations to bring the book to readers.

With the Sunset Cove series, Judy and her daughter, Katy, weave real science, history, and heart into stories the whole family can share — created to leave children a little braver and a little more curious than when they started.

Katy Cloonan writes the Sunset Cove Adventures alongside her mother, Judy. A registered nurse turned homeschooling educator, she is a devoted mother of two, a teacher, and a mentor to many — bringing a nurse’s eye for detail and a teacher’s gift for making learning fun to every page.

Following a season of change during the pandemic, Katy stepped from bedside nursing into teaching her own children at home and writing. She draws on a background in technical writing and stays active in educational organizations across Florida and South Carolina.

Katy and her family split their time between Naples, Florida and Greenville, South Carolina — two communities, and two kinds of people, they love. The Sunset Cove Adventures are pulled straight from real life: years of Gulf-coast and Carolina storms, beach days, and family adventures that grew into the world of the Conners family.
